Secwepemc Online WKPowerLink is proud and excited to announce the signing of a monumental agreement between the Shuswap nation, BC Tel and WKPowerLink, linking the 17 Bands in the Shuswap Nation via the Internet. This is the first agreement of its kind in Canada and WKPowerLink is proud to be a part of it. The agreement will eventually see every home on the 17 reserves, from Invermere to Alkali Lake, connected to the Internet and each other. Skeetchestn Indian Band Chief Ron Ignace hopes this agreement "…will allow us to pull together as a nation and hopefully link us up to other indigenous peoples around the world." Connection to the Internet will allow a whole new generation of young people to learn the Secwepemc language at home, communicate between bands, sell traditional crafts, artwork and publications. To learn more about the Secwepemc see their web site at www.secwepemc.org. Here are some photos from the signing. |
