Brief Instructions
Download the iPass Dial Wizard software. Run the program, following the instructions given by the software, and the iPass Dial Wizard will automatically appear on your desktop.
 
How to Use the iPass Dial Wizard for Windows 95
Click on the iPass Dial Wizard icon on your desktop. Follow the simple instructions to set up a dial-up connection for as many locations as you wish. Each new setup takes about 10 seconds.
 
Detailed Instructions
  1. Locate the iPass Dial Wizard icon on your desktop and click on it.
  2. Highlight the country you are dialing to and click Next.
  3. Highlight the region/state you are dialing to and click Next.
  4. Highlight the city you are dialing to and click Next.
  5. Enter your user name, domain name and click Next. An example of a user name and domain is theresa@example.net where the user name is Teresa and the domain is Example.Net. (The domain name is typically the name of your ISP or company and is usually the part of your e-mail address after the @ sign.)
  6. Enter the connection name to be used in the Dial-Up Networking folder you are creating. Select a modem to be used for this connection or keep the default if you have only one modem. Click Next.
  7. Review the information you entered or selected. If there are mistakes, click Back to correct them. If all the information is correct, click Finish.
Locate this new connection file within your Dial-Up Networking folder. You can access it from your Dial-Up Networking folder or you can drag this to your desktop. (If you drag it to your desktop, click "Yes" when asked if you want to create a shortcut to your desktop).
 
Upgrading the iPass Dial Wizard
If the iPass Dial Wizard is already installed on your computer and you wish to reinstall a newer version, we recommend that you first uninstall the old files and icons before performing the new installation.
 
Uninstall the iPass Dial Wizard from Your Computer
  1. Click "Start -> Settings -> Control Panel". Double Click on Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel folder.
  2. From the Add/Remove dialog, scroll down to iPass Dial Wizard and double click on the selection.
  3. A confirmation will appear, select "Yes" to confirm the removal. Click "Okay" on the progress dialog when it completes.
Dial-Up Networking
If there is no icon for Dial-Up Networking in the My Computer window, you can use the following procedure to install it (you may be prompted to insert your Windows 95 CD ROM, so be sure to have this handy).
  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Click the Windows Setup tab, click Communications, and then click Details.
  4. Click the Dial-Up Networking check box, and then click OK. Click OK again and follow the instructions on your screen.
  5. Click My Computer, and then click Dial-Up Networking.
  6. Follow the instructions on your screen.
Occasionally Dial-Up Networking does not remember your password. To rectify this, within your "Connect To" window, enter your password and hit the tab key. You will now be positioned at the Save password prompt. It has a small white box next to it. Enter shift+s and a checkmark will be displayed within the box and will save your password for subsequent connections until you remove the checkbox.
 

The iPass Dial Wizard for Macintosh

System Requirements
The iPass Dial Wizard for Macintosh requires Open Transport and Open Transport/PPP (OT and OT/PPP). If you are using another TCP/IP stack or PPP implementation, you will be unable to use the iPass Dial Wizard. Both OT and OT/PPP can be obtained from Apple ­ check http://www.apple.com/macos/opentransport/ for details.
 
It is highly recommended that you run System 7.5.3 or newer to support OT and OT/PPP. Please check the Apple web site listed above in order to determine the exact requirements for your specific system.
 
To determine your System Software version, go to the Finder, select "About this Macintosh..." or "About this Computer..." from the Apple (•) menu. The dialog will tell you what version of System Software you are running.
 
You can look in your Control Panels folder to see if you are running OT. Your Control Panels folder is inside your System Folder. If there is a Control Panel called TCP/IP, you are running OT. If there is a Control Panel called MacTCP, you are running the older MacTCP and will need to upgrade to OT.
 
You can determine if you have OT/PPP installed the same way as checking for OT. Check your Control Panels folder. If there is a control panel called PPP, you have OT/PPP installed. If not, you will need to install OT/PPP.
 
To determine the version of OT and OT/PPP you are running, open the TCP/IP control panel and select "Get Info" from the File menu. The dialog will tell you the version of OT and the version of OT/PPP that you are running.

Installation Instructions
The file will download as a binhex file. You can use "Stuffit Expander" to extract the file into a self-extracting archive. Double click on this archive and you will get a folder called iPass Dial Wizard.
 
To run the iPass Dial Wizard, you must make sure that the application, the file "POP Database," and the folder "Scripts" are all located in the same folder. If they are not, delete all the files and extract them again. If the files are still incomplete, please contact your ISP for assistance.
 
Now open the TCP/IP control panel. Make sure that you have changed "Connect via:" to PPP. Also, make sure that you have provided Domain Name Service (DNS) entry. If you do not have one, ask your ISP for one. Ensure that the DNS entry that you are given is accessible from outside any firewalls that might be in place.
 
Please note that the iPass Dial Wizard does not negotiate DNS settings. It is assumed that your modem is properly configured through the Modem Control Panel and that you were able to make a successful connection to the Internet prior to the Dial Wizard Installation. Now that you have the Dial Wizard installed, try to make a connection to a local iPass number to ensure that you are set up successfully. It is much easier, and less expensive, to get support from your ISP while you are still at home.
 
Using the iPass Dial Wizard
The iPass Dial Wizard is easy to use. Simply run the program from the Dial Wizard folder and follow the prompts as provided. In no time, you will easily be able to connect to the Internet, with a local phone call, while traveling throughout the world.
 
If you need the memory that is being used by the iPass Dial Wizard, you can always quit the program after you have established a connection. To hang up, just restart the program and click "Hang Up."
 
Troubleshooting
If you have problems, please check the following:
  • Your modem is connected and plugged in.
  • The phone line is connected to your modem.
  • You have selected PPP from the TCP/IP control panel.
  • You have enough memory. You should have at least one and a half megabytes (1.5MB) of free RAM in order to run the iPass Dial Wizard and establish a PPP connection.
  • OT/PPP does not correctly negotiate DNS. See the discussion in "Installation Instructions" for a description of how to address this problem.

Microsoft Connection Manager (v1.0 and v1.1)

System Requirements
The Microsoft Connection Manager (MCM) is a component of Microsoft's Connection Point Services. It requires Dial-Up Networking and Dial-Up Scripting. Note that Windows 4.0 NT Dial-Up Networking has a different user interface than the Dial-Up Networking on Windows 95. There is no Dial-Up Networking folder in which connection icons (connectoids) can be created and displayed. Instead, desktop shortcuts for each dial-up connection can be created.
 
Setup Information for Windows NT Workstation 4.0
The Microsoft Connection Manager (MCM) is a component of Microsoft's Connection Point Services. It runs on top of the existing Dial-Up Networking (DUN) system component. A properly installed and configured Dial-Up Networking component is required for the Connection Manager to operate successfully.

Installation Instructions
Simply run the setup program and the self-extracting executable will guide you through the rest of the procedure. When the setup is complete, there will be an iPass icon on the Windows desktop appropriately labeled "iPass Connection Manager".
 
How to Use The Microsoft Connection Manager
  1. Double click the desktop icon to open the Connection Manager.
  2. Enter the username@domain.com in the "User name:" field. You must include the @domain to invoke the iPass service.
  3. Click the "Settings" button at the bottom of the main screen.
  4. Click on the phonebook button to select the location(s) that you wish to dial.
  5. Make sure that the correct modem is listed in the "Connect using" field at the bottom of the Connection Settings panel. The drop-down menu will list all modems currently installed on your system.
  6. Once all the settings for the dial location(s) are set, simply click the "Connect" button on the main panel and the Connection Manager will dial the appropriate location. Once authentication is achieved, a connection icon (iPass logo) will appear in the bottom right corner on the Windows taskbar (system tray). You can click and right-click this icon for various features including viewing connection information and disconnecting the connection.
Upgrading the Connection Manager
If the Connection Manager is already installed on your computer and you wish to reinstall a newer version, we recommend that you first uninstall the old files and icons before performing the new installation.

Uninstalling the Connection Manager
To uninstall the Microsoft Connection Manager, open the Control Panel and run the "Add/Remove Programs" utility. The two items that you must click to remove are labeled "Connection Manager" and "iPass Connection Manager". It does not matter which you remove first. The iPass Connection Manager icon will be removed from the desktop.
