Microsoft Outlook 97

Note: If the setting is different from what you see, go here.

Hello! Let me introduce to you how to change your Microsoft Outlook e-mail settings.

Before we continue, I am assuming that you have setup your Microsoft Exchange / Windows Messaging and/or Internet Mail already. If you have not, I strongly recommend (actually this is a must) that you setup MS Exchange and Internet Mail before setting up Microsoft Outlook. Ensure that MS Exchange and Internet Mail are working properly before allowing MS Outlook to become your main e-mail sender and receiver.

There are two sections in MS Outlook that need checking: Services and Options.

Ok, Exchange and Internet Mail are working properly. WOW!

Open Microsoft Outlook and follow the instructions below. Good luck!

Section 1 - Services
  • From the Menu Bar, select Tools and then Services.
MS Outlook
  • Note: Your Services settings may be different from what you see below.
  • As shown below [Figure 01a], highlight Internet Mail.
  • Click Properties button.

  • Select I connect manually especially if you are checking your e-mail through Internet Explorer. You may select I use a modem to access my e-mail if you check your mail directly with Outlook. Note: It is ideal to access the internet using your browser or using dial-up networking first to establish connection and then opening Outlook to check your mail.
